Catholic Funeral, Cremation, and Cemetery Services – Family Service Counselor

Catholic Funeral, Cremation, and Cemetery Services is seeking an organized and professional individual to fill a Family Service Counselor position. Work involves doing outreach presentations at parishes and meeting with families at the cemeteries on an individual basis. The work schedule includes alternate weekends. Diocesan Youth Retreat Center Manager, Lafayette

The Youth Retreat Center Manager is responsible for the administration and management of the Retreat Center. The Youth Retreat Center provides service to youth and young adults of every parish and school in the Diocese of Oakland. The Retreat Center is also open to outside users when its schedule permits. The manager has the responsibility to maintain the Retreat Center in good order at all times. In addition, the manager is charged with the responsibility to train and supervise the employees and/or contractors at the center.

Some of the duties are to develop a schedule for year round usage; develop a yearly advertising flyer and mailings to various groups in the diocese; develop a monthly calendar of schedules for publication on the internet and fill any retreat cancellations when possible; verify insurance certificates of outside users and file copies with Insurance and Benefits Department at the Diocese; collect fees and record deposits in a monthly ledger; decide and act upon any problem that arises in the Retreat Center; be available and responsible for solving any occurrences to property in a timely manner; contact appropriate service or repair personnel when needed; determine and oversee the need of any major repair due to deterioration or wear and tear to the property; supervise pool equipment daily; keep inventory of kitchen, office, and cleaning supplies and replenish when necessary; supervise any volunteer groups that assist with project; develop and oversee a seasonal schedule of duties to be performed including cleaning of all gutters before the rainy season, covering pool and turning equipment off during the winter; sealing the water pump structure and pipes and re-opening in spring to prevent over heating; turning sprinkler systems off and on, making sure weeding is done around entire property including the sides of the roadway coming up to the Retreat Center in early April to prevent fire hazard. The Retreat Manager is responsible for fundraising for various needs of the Retreat Center in particular soliciting various foundations by grant writing for capital improvements that would not normally be covered by the operating budget.

This position is a live-in position and is classified as E-4 on the Diocesan scale ($43-528 - $48,969). Full diocesan benefits apply.

Cathedral of Christ the Light Project, Oakland – Public Relations Associate

To prepare and carry out dedication events this fall, the Cathedral project has need of public relations and communications support. We are seeking a full-time, experienced practitioner who is interested in a 7-9 month project contract.

Primary duties include:

Working under the direction of communication staff, assist the Cathedral Project with all communications related to the completion and opening of the Cathedral of Christ the Light by contributing to communication strategy for dedication events; writing for web site, newsletters, promotional/marketing material, press kits and media advisories; coordinating production timelines and vendors; creating media lists, pitch stories and coordinate media events; and assisting with community relations, including city, county and chamber activities.

Requirements/Qualifications:

- 3-5 years professional PR experience;
- excellent public relations writer; samples required;
- proactive media relations experience;
- publication production and vendor coordination;
- strong presentation skills; and
- knowledge of Catholicism and East Bay community affairs.

St. Perpetua Parish, Lafayette – Director of Faith Formation

St. Perpetua Parish, Lafayette, CA, is an active, mid-size suburban Catholic community of more than 1100 households. The parish has an established Faith Formation program with many highly trained and motivated catechists. The parish has a K-8 parochial school. This is an opportunity for a resourceful, multi-talented, and collaborative person to make a significant contribution to the ministry of Catholic Faith Formation.

Primary responsibility will be the direction of the pre-K through 5th grade program, Sacramental Preparation, and strong emphasis on the Junior High (grades 6-8) program. The Director of Faith Formation recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer catechists, plans and facilitates meetings, schedules classes and facilities in collaboration with parish and school staff, selects and orders materials and books, and serves as a member of the parish staff.

Qualifications:

Candidate is a practicing, fully initiated Roman Catholic with a BA in theology/Faith Formation or related field, a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a Catholic School or equivalent, has one year of administrative experience (paid or volunteer) and the ability to collaborate with parish and school staff and volunteers.

Salary and Benefits: Full-time (40 hours), 11 month, exempt position (some evening and weekends required), M3-4 classification according to diocesan scale and benefits.

Position begins: June 2008, starting-date to be negotiated.
