Job: St. Martin de Porres Middle School

The St. Martin de Porres Middle School (in Oakland, CA) has an emergency need for a religion teacher for the last two and half weeks of school, starting next week. This is due to a family emergency for one of the teachers. Sr. Barbara Dawson, the principal, is looking for someone to teach the Middle School Religion for about 10 days. She will pay the person $100 a day if they will be here all day (8am-3pm and $75 if they work from 8-Noon.

About FACE:

Founded in 1978, FACE (Family Aid for Catholic Education) is the leading provider of tuition assistance for low-income children attending Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Oakland.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Development, Diocese of Oakland, and a volunteer on the Board of Directors, the Executive Director of FACE is responsible for the overall management and direction of the FACE program, including implementation of the fund raising plan, stewardship of major benefactors, supervision of employees, coordination with the Board and volunteers, and coordination with the Department of Catholic Schools.

St. Clement School, Hayward - Principal

St. Clement Catholic School is a K through 8th grade school located in the city of Hayward next to Moreau Catholic High School, in Alameda County serving the city of Hayward. The Youth Retreat Center Manager is responsible for the administration and management of the Retreat Center. The Youth Retreat Center provides service to youth and young adults of every parish and school in the Diocese of Oakland. The Retreat Center is also open to outside users when its schedule permits. The manager has the responsibility to maintain the Retreat Center in good order at all times. In addition, the manager is charged with the responsibility to train and supervise the employees and/or contractors at the center.

Cathedral of Christ the Light Project, Oakland – Public Relations Associate

To prepare and carry out dedication events this fall, the Cathedral project has need of public relations and communications support. We are seeking a full-time, experienced practitioner who is interested in a 7-9 month project contract.

Primary duties include:

Working under the direction of communication staff, assist the Cathedral Project with all communications related to the completion and opening of the Cathedral of Christ the Light by contributing to communication strategy for dedication events; writing for web site, newsletters, promotional/marketing material, press kits and media advisories; coordinating production timelines and vendors; creating media lists, pitch stories and coordinate media events; and assisting with community relations, including city, county and chamber activities.

Requirements/Qualifications:

- 3-5 years professional PR experience;

Job: Administrative Assistant Position - East Bay College Fund

East Bay College Fund is looking for an energetic, organized person to provide administrative support to our small grassroots nonprofit organization, under direction of the Executive Director (ED). East Bay College Fund (EBCF) provides $16,000 college scholarships and mentoring to Oakland public high school students. We are especially interested in skilled individuals who are committed to social change, who want to help under-represented young people go to college and expand their life opportunities, and who may come from backgrounds similar to our Scholars. Responsibilities include generating and managing correspondence with students and adults via email, mail and telephone; event planning and organizing; database management; word processing; data entry; coordinating large mailing projects; assisting ED with Scholar selection event; occasionally attending evening Board meetings and weekend events as needed; photocopying and filing. Responsibilities have the potential to expand depending upon individual’s organization and communication skills, and the growth of EBCF.

All work will be performed in your own home using your own computer, printer and telephone. Occasional meetings and work are scheduled as needed in nonprofit members’ homes or at public venues in and around Oakland.

Hours are part time and flexible, averaging 5-10 hours per week. Hours fluctuate during year. Some weeks there is little work; during the busiest months there is a lot of work (March thru May, and August). You are notified in advance of special events or meetings which require your attendance. There are no benefits for this position. You are hired as an independent contractor. A 1099 form will be issued to you at the end of the fiscal year; you pay your own Social Security contributions and Federal income taxes.

Minimum required skills:

  • Excellent verbal, written and oral communication skills
  • Extremely reliable, responsible, and organized

  • 2-4 years experience in office or administrative work, or related business experience
